Luce Words on porn, erotica

A lot has been said about women being the great un(der)-served group in porn and erotica. And while there is a great diversity of opinion among women, it’s clear that there is  demand for exciting and hot jerk-off material for the more broad-minded and liberated women. Traditional porn have failed to get us off.
The common reasons women give for being put off by or disinterested in conventional “straight” pornography include:
  • It looks fake
  • It’s hard to relate to
  • Can’t stand the thought of contributing to exploitation of women or the gender power hierarchy (either real or perceived) in “hetero”porn
  • The men in this type of porn are ugly (this is actually my biggest gripe)
At the same time, we’ve been disappointed or even grossed out with the so-called women’s erotica and porn that burst onto the scene several years ago. With adjectives such as “romantic erotica” or “couples porn”, this genre can really be summarized as Harlequin Romance with fucking thrown in. Heavy on the talk (all very clean and misogyny-free), smooch and eye-contact and some pretend storyline and plot, it supposedly met the need for something that was a counter to all the gangbangs and facials that so many women found despicable. To be frank, I find this sort of femme schmaltz all quite nauseating.
Some of us like fucking and sometimes, we like it without the florid settings and tiresome imagery. We don’t have to apologize for our desires by constantly putting sex into context that’s been prescribed and approved.
  • I am not obsessed with storylines
  • I have not read a romance novel since the age of 15
So I – along with many women – have turned to viewing things that are outside the conventional realm. This includes “gay” and “bi” stuff, specialist niches (like BDSM etc. You name your desire and there’s bound to be a niche to meet it). You reduce the hit-or-miss element with these alternative types of porn. It’s great to find what you want, know what you’re getting and get off to it.
There are plenty of us who like to dictate our own viewing likes and dislikes and not just sit passively as others amuse themselves. Time spent in front of a screen watching boring, tedious or offensive material is time wasted – and life’s too short for that.
